I grew up listening to Teresa Teng and even though I didn't understand the lyrics I just loved her voice and the tune. Now that I understand the lyrics I love the song even more! Hats off to all the non- Chinese people here who love Teresa Teng and her songs!
Honestly the singer's voice is what saved this terrible song... the moon is like the best measure of one's love as opposed to the stars which are much further away. And the phrase was to ask how much is the measure of love... as an artistic response also pretty lacking. The moon is just pretty boring thing in the sky compared to other things on planet earth.
A little back story about this song back in 2023 when me and my friends were on cruising while eating our dinner at Chao Praya river in Bangkok, Thailand, there was a band that was playing different songs in different language (perhaps because the tour was meant for different nationality of tourists) this song was played and I sang-along with them, my friends looked at me and they were surprised why the heck I know the song 😂😂😂😂 I told them this is a Chinese song a courtship song. I am a filipino with a drop of Chinese descent. I haven’t studied in a Chinese school. I just love the melody and the soulful beat of the song.
This is the song my grandfather loved to listen to before he died last year in November… 😢 It was so sad seeing him in the coffin. We cremated him and took turns taking a piece of bone. I couldn’t believe my eyes that those were the remains of my very grandfather who loved me and played with me throughout my childhood years. Wish you a good time up in heaven, 公公 (grandfather in Chinese).
I'm Brazilian and I'm in love with Teresa Teng's songs after watching the film "Comrades, Almost a Love Story (1996) Directed by Peter Chan"! What a special song and special singer ! May more people in the West know this brilliant artist.
The thing is Teresa rose from extreme poverty to become the biggest Asian pop diva is something to really admire. There was a time when her family had to struggle for a bowl of rice. Her parents didn't had enough money to send her to schools so she had to become part time singer in order to pay her school fees and also to feed her families. For this reason, she was often absent from school which later annoyed her principle and he told her to either chose school or music. Considering the family's economic situation, Teresa chosed second and quitted the school. Since then she became full time singer and her career began to climb up gradually. Later, she used her hard earned money to send her brothers to study in US. Many people have no idea how much Lijun has done for her family and society. She was a sole bread winner for her family for much of her life. This is what her mother said. A total respect to this great woman! 🙏
